Aligned with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ghent is reaffirming its commitment to supporting patients and caregivers through healthcare-centric solutions that make a difference. With breast cancer projected to affect approximately 316,950 women in the U.S. in 2025, the stakes could not be higher.
At the heart of Ghent’s efforts is not just symbolic support, but meaningful product work in healthcare environments. With all the advanced technology that goes into modern medicine, it is remarkable that solutions as simple as hospital communication boards can improve patient care, patient relationships with staff, and overall satisfaction. Incorporating the proper tools that are both functional and elegantly designed allows healthcare professionals to create engaging environments where patient/staff communication can thrive. In fact, integrating Ghent communication tools increases HCAHPS scores up to 6.3 points. With 25% of hospital readmissions caused by a lack of provider communication, Ghent aims to provide clarity in how healthcare professionals work. Intentional patient room design leads to improved safety, reduced stress and fatigue, and improved healthcare quality.
What makes this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month especially poignant for Ghent is that the company’s own Director of Marketing, Susan Claus, is in the final stages of her own journey with breast cancer. In recognition of her experience and in commitment to community, she now serves on the board of The Common Thread for the Cure, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals in the furnishings and design industries who are battling breast cancer by providing confidential financial grants and resources.
“Going through treatment gave me firsthand clarity about what it feels like to be at the receiving end of design in healthcare environments,” Claus said. “I’m proud that Ghent’s work goes beyond a space's design; we provide tools that help caregivers communicate information, reduce anxiety, and support dignity. We can’t cure the disease, but we can help make spaces more humane during the toughest moments.”
Beyond raising awareness, Ghent is amplifying The Common Thread for the Cure’s mission and calling on industry partners to contribute to the charity’s 25th anniversary fundraising auction. For additional information about The Common Thread for the Cure, go to commonthreadforthecure.org.
